The biggest advantage of plastic hair combs is that they are relatively affordable and easy to use and clean, and are mostly used in wet bathing areas or for one-off use.
Plastic combs are available in various shapes: single piece, cylindrical and brush-like shapes.
The single piece combs can be produced in a single injection moulding process, while the other types require a later flocking process.
Choose the right material
The plastic materials usually used in the production of combs are PP, PE and ABS.
ABS is an engineering plastic with good overall performance. It has the good formability of polystyrene, the toughness of polybutadiene, the chemical stability and surface hardness of polybutylenitrile, and its tensile strength can reach 35-50MPa. Therefore combs made of ABS plastic are of high quality.
PP plastic, on the other hand, is softer and suitable for the production of disposable, portable combs for travel.
Which one is suitable for your product?
Configure the plastic hair comb mould
Like other plastic products, combs require special moulds for their production. The number of cavities in the mould determines the output per cycle of the comb. You can also provide us with your target output per hour and we will calculate a reasonable number of cavities for the mould accordingly.
The fine teeth of the comb are the most intensive part of the finishing process of the mould, so the number of teeth in each comb is critical to the cost of the mould, for which please advise you of the exact details of your product.
There are also cold and hot comb mould types, the difference for production is that the cold runner will have a head present within the cavity which needs to be removed each production cycle, whereas the hot runner moulds do not require this process and therefore have a higher degree of automated production.
Many customers have special requirements for the colour of their products, and to increase the aesthetics of their combs they will often produce two-colour products, so we will consider increasing the size of the inlet port in the design of the injection mould to better control the rate of entry of different coloured materials.
